HONOLULU
The National Veterans Golden Age Games are due to be held in Honolulu this week.
Fourteen sports and recreational activities are being offered in seven age categories, including, air riflery, swimming, and cycling.
The games are the only national multi-event sports and recreational competition program designed to improve the quality of life for military veterans ages 55 and older who receive health care at Veterans Administration medical facilities.
U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Akaka and Daniel K. Inouye are serving as honorary co-chairmen.
More than 900 competitors are signed up to attend the games, which are scheduled to begin on Thursday and last through May 31.
The events will be held at Waikiki Beach, the University of Hawaii, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and the Hawaii Convention Center among other sites.
