Explanation of request, including purpose and why it is a valuable use of taxpayer funds: The Core Arterial Road Infrastructure project addresses roadways considered to range from fair to poor condition. The contractor will rotomill the existing worn asphaltic concrete surface, repair base failures, and then overlay it with new Superpave asphaltic concrete. The contractor will also remove and replace dilapidated concrete curb and make the necessary adjustments to sidewalk, curb ramps and traffic signals at intersections to ensure compliance with current Americans with Disabilities Act regulations. Recycled products will be used when feasible. These projects will employ approximately 60 people during construction.

The St. Louis Airport Site (SLAPS) consists of 21.7 acres north of Lambert International Airport in North St. Louis County, Missouri. The site is bordered by McDonnell Boulevard on the north and east, Coldwater Creek on the west, Banshee Road and Norfolk and Western Railway on the south. The SLAPS Vicinity Properties (SLAPS VPs) site consists of 78 properties in North St. Louis County, Missouri.

Funding for Zoo science field trips would advance students’ attainment of science education goals and enable us to target at-risk students at schools without resources in the Saint Louis Metro region.

Project Name: Missouri Botanical Garden Historic Preservation Initiative

Explanation of request, including purpose and why it is a valuable use of taxpayer funds: To renovate the Garden’s historical perimeter stone wall and wrought iron fence, which were originally constructed in 1857. The Missouri Botanical Garden, founded by Henry Shaw and opened to the public in 1859, is the oldest continuously operating botanical garden in the United States. The Garden occupies 79 acres in historic south St. Louis City and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976. In 2009, the Garden celebrated its 150th anniversary.

Explanation of request, including purpose and why it is a valuable use of taxpayer funds: The project the implementation of this phase of the Natural Bridge Great Street project is from east of Hanley Road to Lucas and Hunt. This project will reconstruct Natural Bridge from east of Hanley to Lucas and Hunt Road, which will include enhance bicycle and pedestrian facilities, as well as enhancement for transit operation of Metrobus and connections to Metrolink stations. The project will also provide enhancements to economic development opportunities in the City of Normandy. The project will also utilize environmental best practices in reconstruction the storm water system and support to sustainable development in the corridor. Pedestrian and roadway scale lighting, street trees, ADA enhanced crossways and improved crossings for pedestrians will be included in the project.

healthcare providers guide and encourage parents to read aloud to their children from their earliest years of their life, and send them home from each regular checkup with a new book and a prescription to read together.

Dropout rates exceed 40 percent at these schools.

This flood damage reduction project will reduce damages affecting 550 structures within both industrial and residential areas. River des Peres includes two branches, University City and Deer Creek. The University City portion consists of channel enlargement and stabilization along 2.5 miles of the University City Branch of upper River des Peres and a 1.85 mile recreation trail within the improved channel right-of-way. The Deer Creek portion consists of 2.5 miles of channel widening and stabilization improvements along with a recreational trail through Brentwood, Maplewood, Rock Hill, and Webster Groves.

Project Name: Saint Louis Art Museum Conservation and Restoration of the American Art Collection

In addition, the Museum holds many sketches and drawings by Bingham, as well as prints of his works made during his lifetime. The Museum also holds many important contemporary works by American artists active after 1945, which have significant conservation needs.  The conservation and restoration of this culturally significant and unique collection will allow this remarkable collection of American works to be preserved for future generations.

The Partnership, together with the East West Gateway Council of Governments, will explore the economic development and ridership potential in this corridor and create the foundation for additional environmental work.  This proposed Streetcar will strengthen the region’s transit system by feeding into current and proposed MetroLInk and MetroBus lines, solidifying existing economic investments, and spurring additional investment.
