  1. Last week, I chaired the Ways and Means HR Subcommittee hearing on proposals to reduce child deaths due to abuse and neglect. And today the House passed the Protect Our Kids Act, legislation which establishes a commission to develop recommendations to reduce child deaths from neglect and abuse.

  2. LIVE: I will be taking to the House floor soon to discuss two important bills being voted on today.

  3. TODAY IN HISTORY - 235 years ago, Gen. Washington & his army arrived at Valley Forge where they spent the harsh winter. The suffering troops, who held together by loyalty to the Patriot cause and to General Washington, emerged stronger and better disciplined. Nine days later they defeated the British at the Battle of Monmouth.

  4. On Friday, I joined Eden Prairie based People Reaching Out to Other People (PROP), a volunteer-driven agency serving the residents of Chanhassen and Eden Prairie, in delivering groceries to local families going through hardships. I was also... able to spend some time visiting with volunteers.

Thank you to all the Minnesotans taking the time to volunteer this Christmas season.

  5. "Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN), the acting chairman of the House Ways and Means subcommittee on human resources, has been nothing short of heroic in trying to rally support to repeal or delay the tax. He spearheaded a repeal bill through the House in June and has been encouraging members of the Senate from both sides of the aisle to follow suit."
  6. I had a chance to sit-down this morning with Minnesota Youth Council Participant Micaela from Minnetonka, as well as two of the council's adult partners Kelsey from Brooklyn Park and Sue from Minnetonka. Thank you all for the wonderful conversation.

  10. It was an honor to have former Minnesota 3rd district Congressman Bill Frenzel testify before today's Ways and Means Subcommittee hearing. We both had a chance to speak with the other witnesses before the hearing began.

  11. As Acting Chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Human Resources, I will be holding a hearing this afternoon examining proposals to reduce child deaths due to abuse and neglect. Every year, over 1500 children die due to abuse or neglect in our country. This issue is a tragic one, but also one that can be avoided.

  12. In June, my bill to repeal the dangerous new tax on American medical device innovation passed with a bipartisan vote in the House - including every member of the Minnesota delegation.

Now it is time for the Senate to act. A letter signed ...by 18 Democrat Senators was sent to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) asking to delay this job-crushing tax due to the overall poor economy as well as a lack of guidance for compliance.

It is encouraging to see bipartisan and bicameral support growing to stop the implementation of the medical device tax. READ my statement on the letter below:

  16. On the 71st anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor, we take time to celebrate the courage and honor the sacrifice of America's greatest generation. Over 16 million men and women served our country in uniform during World War II and hundreds of thousands of Americans would lay down their lives in defense of freedom.

Today, take a moment to thank the WWII veterans in your life for their service and remember all those who have served - and continue to serve - in our armed forces.
