  • The 13th Congressional District & Map

Ohio's 13th Congressional District truly is a great place to live, raise a family and do business. Congresswoman Sutton has lived most of her life in and around the communities that make up much of the district, and she is proud to represent the people and places she knows and loves so much.

Originally nicknamed the “Turnpike District”, the 13th Congressional District’s unique shape traces across the shoreline of Lake Erie in Lorain County, captures the “Emerald Necklace” of the Cleveland MetroParks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and extends south to include the Portage Lakes State Park in Summit County. The 13th Congressional District is also home to institutions of higher learning such as Lorain County Community College and The University of Akron.

The 13th Congressional District stretches across four of Northeast Ohio’s most populous counties, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina, and Summit, and it includes all or some of over thirty communities.

Social Security

Return to Issues & Legislation

We must remember the promise of Social Security and all that it delivers to the American people. Before Social Security was enacted in 1935, half of Americans lived in poverty. Social Security created a sacred trust to our parents and grandparents that must be upheld. After decades of hard work, raising their families, and defending our country, America’s seniors should be able to retire with dignity, respect and financial security.

Social Security has been a promise to the American people for 75 years. The promise has been to provide a financially secure retirement to the American people if they work hard and pay their fair share. Congresswoman Sutton firmly believes that this promise is one that must be kept to the American people who have worked their entire lives for this benefit -- that it is vitally important to support those who have raised and supported us so much.

Congresswoman Sutton has stood firmly behind Social Security and the rights of seniors and Americans with disabilities who rely on this great program. She has consistently provided strong support for Social Security and made efforts to strengthen it. Congresswoman Sutton opposes any cuts to Social Security benefits, including not only raising the retirement age, but also any efforts to privatize Social Security – in whole or in part.

Congresswoman Sutton is proud to have signed a letter to President Obama opposing any cuts to Social Security benefits.  This letter expresses strong support for strengthening Social Security and opposing any benefit cuts, including raising the retirement age.  She is also an original cosponsor of a resolution expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the Social Security retirement age should not be raised.
