  • The 13th Congressional District & Map

Ohio's 13th Congressional District truly is a great place to live, raise a family and do business. Congresswoman Sutton has lived most of her life in and around the communities that make up much of the district, and she is proud to represent the people and places she knows and loves so much.

Originally nicknamed the “Turnpike District”, the 13th Congressional District’s unique shape traces across the shoreline of Lake Erie in Lorain County, captures the “Emerald Necklace” of the Cleveland MetroParks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and extends south to include the Portage Lakes State Park in Summit County. The 13th Congressional District is also home to institutions of higher learning such as Lorain County Community College and The University of Akron.

The 13th Congressional District stretches across four of Northeast Ohio’s most populous counties, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina, and Summit, and it includes all or some of over thirty communities.

Energy

As a member of the House Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus, Congresswoman Sutton has been a leader in bringing the clean energy technology jobs of tomorrow to Northeast Ohio, to position the region as a global leader in this emerging field. Through her efforts and support, BASF is building North America's most advanced lithium-ion battery materials production facility in Elyria. The batteries produced there will power hybrid and electric automobiles made in Ohio and throughout the country.

The Congresswoman also led the way in building a 21st century, clean-energy economy with a smart, strong and secure electricity delivery system. Through a public-private partnership that was part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, First Energy of Akron will modernize the electrical grid and reduce peak energy demand, resulting in energy-saving choices for consumers, increased efficiency and growth of renewable energy sources like wind and solar.

Congresswoman Sutton's landmark Cash for Clunkers legislation led to a 58 percent improvement in fuel efficiency, with the average fuel efficiency of vehicles traded in being 15.8 miles per gallon (mpg), compared to 24.9 mpg for the new cars purchased to replace them.

Environment

Congresswoman Sutton is a strong environmental steward and believes we must protect our natural resources for future generations, consistently voting to for legislation aimed at supporting and preserving environmental efforts.

Congresswoman Sutton secured $5.5 million for the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) to complete the acquisition of 635 acres of undeveloped land. This project significantly enhances the CVNP by permanently incorporating into the Park the largest remaining private parcel of land within its boundary. It completes the preservation of the CVNP and ensures that the people of Northeast Ohio will be able to enjoy Ohio’s only National Park for generations to come.

Congresswoman Sutton is a member of the Great Lakes Task Force, working with her colleagues to protect the largest fresh water source in the world.
