SARBANES CONGRATULATES MARYLAND SCHOOLS ON #1 RANKING FOR FOURTH YEAR IN A ROW

Towson, MD – Today Congressman John Sarbanes congratulated Governor Martin O’Malley and Interim Maryland State Superintendent of Schools Bernard Sandusky, as well as educators and administrators across the state, for their efforts to maintain Maryland’s status as the premier school system in the nation as rated by Education Week.

“Maryland schools are at the head of the class in terms of student performance and education policy,” said Congressman John Sarbanes. “The dedicated public servants that work in our school system should be very proud and I will continue to work hard in the Congress to ensure that they receive their fair share of federal resources.”

Before coming to Congress, Sarbanes served for seven years with the Maryland State Superintendent as liaison to the Baltimore City Public Schools.  He is a former member of the Education and Labor Committee and has worked in Congress to bring resources to public schools through his authorship of the Instructional Leadership Act and the No Child Left Inside Act.
