Next week I will be holding a series of town hall meetings on reducing and preventing gun violence. On Tuesday at 7 p.m. we will be at Napa City Hall in the Council Chambers at 955 School Street. On Wednesday at 7 p.m. we will be at Vallejo City Hall at 555 Santa Clara Street. And on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. we will be at the Board of Supervisors meeting room in Santa Rosa at 575 Administration Drive. I want to hear from you. Please join us if you can.

I just got back from the House floor where I voted to approve critical aid for those states and communities hit by Hurricane Sandy. This should have been done last Congress, but politics once again got in the way of doing what’s right. Instead, today we only considered a fraction of the necessary Sandy aid, and we will be voting on the rest later this month. In the new Congress, we need to work to put these pointless political games aside and come together to do what’s best for the country.

Last night, I voted in favor of the bipartisan compromise to avert the fiscal cliff. This legislation is far from perfect but it was better than falling off the fiscal cliff. Doing nothing would have sent our economy into a tailspin and triggered another recession. Now that we have done what was needed to avoid the fiscal cliff, it’s time to focus getting Americans back to work and getting our fiscal house in order.
