Peters Applauds President Obama's Visit to Announce 115 New Union Jobs at Detroit Diesel

Announcement of Daimler’s $120 million job-creating investment underscores success of regional cooperation in auto rescue

Redford Township, MI - Today following President Obama’s Greater Detroit speech, U.S. Rep. Gary Peters issued the following statement:

“Today’s announcement that Daimler is making a $120 million investment in our region demonstrates that when we work together, we succeed together,” said U.S. Rep. Gary Peters. “At the height of the recession, when it looked like we might lose our auto industry altogether, we came together as one Greater Detroit community. Today, because of the tremendous sacrifices of our auto workers as well as President Obama's commitment to see our local economy recover, thousands of new auto jobs have been created across our region. To keep our economy growing, we need to focus on the things that unite us which is why I asked Governor Snyder to keep his promise by rejecting divisive ‘right to work’ legislation.”

Detroit Diesel, the site of today’s speech, currently employs about 3,000 hard working men and women of the UAW.
