  1. “With a stroke of his pen, Governor Snyder erased not only a decades old bipartisan consensus in support of workers' rights, but his credibility as well. We learned that we can no longer take Governor Snyder at his word and he certainly is unwilling to stand up for Michigan's middle class families. This is a sad day for Michigan and we can only wonder which divisive issue Governor Snyder will champion next.”
  2. “[W]e must guard against being fooled by false slogans, such as 'right to work'” – Dr. Martin Luther King in a 1961 pamphlet where he spoke out against this divisive, anti-worker legislation. You can see the original piece at The King Center here: http://bit.ly/SbvH8P
  3. Just minutes after Gov. Snyder signed his divisive “right to work” law, I spoke to Rev Al Sharpton. You can watch here:
  4. I’ll be on msnbc's Politics nation with Reverend Al Sharpton at about 6:00pm tonight discussing Governor Rick Snyder’s so-called “right to work” attack on Michigan’s working families.
  5. After spending years telling us that ‘right to work for less’ legislation was off the table, Governor Snyder has created an embarrassing national spectacle by doing a full flip flop on this issue. Perhaps most disturbing of all, Governor Sn...
yder and his right wing allies used every trick in the book to prevent the people from being able to hold a referendum vote on this issue. All the while, Governor Snyder has refused to take any responsibility for these dirty tricks by trying to hide behind Republican legislators. Make no mistake about it, if Governor Snyder signs this bill, he owns all of it. Rick Snyder has one last chance to stop listening to the Koch Brothers and start listening to the thousands of hard working Michiganders in the streets of Lansing today. For the sake of the future of our state and for the millions of Michiganders who will see their incomes stagnate if this becomes law, I urge Governor Snyder to do the right thing and veto this bill.

  7. I’ll be speaking with Thomas Roberts on msnbc at about 11:00 this morning about the Michigan GOP’s attack on working families. I’m proud to stand in solidarity with our union brothers and sisters against Governor Snyder’s “right to work for less” plan.
  8. At about 8:30, I’ll be on MSNBC’s The Ed Show with UAW President Bob King talking about Rick Snyder’s attack on Michigan’s working families and President Obama’s visit today.
  9. Today’s announcement that Daimler is making a $120 million investment in our region demonstrates that when we work together, we succeed together. At the height of the recession, when it looked like we might lose our auto industry altogether...
, we came together as one Greater Detroit community. Today, because of the tremendous sacrifices of our auto workers as well as President Obama's commitment to see our local economy recover, thousands of new auto jobs have been created across our region. To keep our economy growing, we need to focus on the things that unite us which is why I asked Governor Snyder to keep his promise by rejecting divisive "right to work" legislation.

  11. Wishing all who celebrate a happy and joyous Hanukkah.
  12. Governor Snyder campaigned on a promise of unity, but instead he’s ushering in an era of divisiveness across Michigan by launching an attack against working families. By trying to jam this through a lame duck session, Governor Snyder is try...
ing to prevent voters from seeing how he is dividing Michigan instead of working to ensure the future of our state during this fragile recovery. Just like Scott Walker, Governor Snyder’s flip flop is clearly a calculated decision to put his own political ambitions ahead of the families he’s supposed to be working for. I stand in solidarity with Michigan’s working families, and we will never stop fighting against this unprecedented and reckless action by Governor Snyder.

  16. This morning we broke ground on the Troy Transit Center. I was proud to secure federal funding for this project, a critical piece of Greater Detroit’s regional transit plan.
