Congressman Kildee Announces $17.7 Million Head Start Grant

WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that he helped secure nearly $17.7 million in Early Head Start and Head Start funding awarded to the Genesee County Community Action Resource Department through a grant that has been approved by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The grant will fund the agency’s countywide Early Head Start and Head Start programs through school districts and local colleges.

"I am very pleased I was able to help secure this important funding that will provide much-needed support for programs that raise the quality of health care and education in Genesee County," said Kildee. "For our families, education is the key to success and our children must be prepared as they grow and eventually enter preschool and kindergarten. Head Start and Early Head Start help children start school ready to succeed."

Congressman Kildee, a senior member of the House Education and Labor Committee, co-authored legislation establishing the current Head Start program with the late Ted Kennedy prior the Massachusetts Senator’s death in 2009. Kildee and Kennedy stood together as President George W. Bush signed the bill into law.

Genesee County Community Action Resource Department’s Early Head Start and Head Start programs serves pregnant women, parents with infants and toddlers, and children up to age 5.
