Walz Visits Jackson Business to Highlight “Made-In-America” Manufacturing PDF Print

“AGCO is proving that we can make things in America again”

Jackson, MN—Today, Congressman Tim Walz toured the AGCO manufacturing facility in Jackson to talk “made-in-America” manufacturing with local employees and to see firsthand the new, 75,000-square-foot expansion of their farm equipment manufacturing facility and to highlight the need to pass a farm bill in 2012.

“AGCO is proving that we can make things in America again,” said Rep. Walz. “We must renew our commitment to American manufacturing and create jobs right here at home. By investing in Jackson, AGCO is doing just that and is showing that southern Minnesota provides a strong, dedicated workforce and can meet the demands of a growing business in today’s world market.”

“We’re excited to have Rep. Walz here today to hear from us and see for himself how we are creating jobs and continuing to make products that are vital to the success of farmers both here in Minnesota and throughout the world,” said Eric Fisher, Director of Operations at AGCO.

AGCO recently completed a 75,000-square-foot expansion of their manufacturing facility in Jackson to begin production of Massey Ferguson and Challenger high horsepower wheeled row crop tractors. With the expansion, AGCO created over 100 new manufacturing jobs in Jackson.

By manufacturing these tractors here, in the heart of farm country rather than overseas, AGCO will be better suited to meet the needs of local farmers and build better, smarter tractors. The expansion will also cut down significantly on transport time, allowing these new tractors to be available to local farmers much quicker than before, ensuring they have the tools they need to succeed.

With the current Farm Bill set to expire at the end of September, Congressman Walz has been working hard to pass a new farm bill in 2012. Last month, he led a group of 38 of his colleagues in the House of Representatives in sending a letter to House leadership calling on them to pass a new farm bill in 2012.
