(WASHINGTON) – Today, Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.) issued this statement following the Department of Transportation award of a more than $594K Federal Highway Administration grant to the Michigan Department of Transportation for Woodward Avenue, and the Department of Health and Human Services award of a more than $236K Health Careers Opportunity grant to the University of Detroit Mercy:

“I am happy to announce that the Department of Transportation has provided a Federal Highway Administration grant to the Michigan Department of Transportation. This funding will go towards designing signs and installing roadside markers that will designate local attractions along Woodward Avenue, an All American Road. These signs will allow pedestrians to better understand the unique Indian heritage found in the area,” said Conyers.

“Additionally, I am pleased that the Department of Health and Human Services selected the University of Detroit Mercy to receive a Health Careers Opportunity Program grant. This grant will allow for innovative new training programs within the university that will open doors for individuals eager to serve in public health. As millions of people in the United States continue to struggle within a broken healthcare system, I applaud the Department of Health and Human Service’s promotion of healthcare innovation.”
