Congressman Higgins Presents WWII Vet Clayton John with Military Medals

Local Resident Served in Navy Nearly 70 years ago

Congressman Brian Higgins presented Clayton John, a local World War II veteran with several long-overdue service medals.  Mr. John, a veteran of the United States Navy Reserve served in the military from 1942 to 1946.

“Clayton John and all of our veterans have played a vital role in the protection and preservation of all that make this country great,” said Congressman Higgins.  “On behalf of a good and grateful nation, it is truly my honor to give him the long-overdue recognition he deserves for his brave and selfless service.”  
 
Mr. John was a Seaman First Class who served in the Invasion of Normandy.  One of his duties included assisting the ship’s pharmacist, a duty which earned him the nickname “Doc” which has stuck with him to this day.  
 
After returning from the war Mr. John worked for over 30 years at Bethlehem Steel.  He is currently a resident at Autumn View in Hamburg. John’s family contacted Congressman Higgins’ office in June to ask for assistance with obtaining the military medals for their father.  
 
Congressman Higgins presented Mr. John with the World War II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign with one bronze star, Combat Action Ribbon, Discharge Button, and Honorable Service Lapel Pin.
