Pelosi Statement on Veterans Day

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement in commemoration of Veterans Day, which falls on Sunday:

“On Veterans Day, Americans pause with reverence to honor all the men and women in uniform in our nation’s history who have served in our armed forces and sacrificed on behalf of our nation.  Our soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen and Coast Guardsmen reflect the highest ideals of our great country; their service must be honored not just this day, but every day.

“Today, we particularly pray for those who gave, as Abraham Lincoln said, ‘their last full measure of devotion,’ and for their families.  We also recognize that many of our men and women in uniform have come home from the battlefield forever changed and we recommit to meeting their needs.

“In this economy, the best way we can honor the service of our veterans is with a job when they come home.  Those who have bravely served our nation in uniform are highly-skilled and they have demonstrated enormous leadership; they should be at the front of the line when it comes to hiring in our local communities.  Democrats will continue our efforts to pass common sense legislation to put our veterans to work and we will support President Obama’s efforts to do the same.

“Because of our men and women in uniform, we are the land of the free and the home of the brave.  Today, let us honor their contributions to our nation and express our gratitude for their service.”
