Tue, September 6, 2011

Confirmation Hearing
Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs

Mr. Chairman, I am pleased to join you in welcoming Mr. Richard Cordray, who has been nominated to serve as the first Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

I am confident that he will make the a strong defender for consumers.  He knows the markets and has a demonstrated track record.
He has been a fierce advocate for consumers and middle-class families as Attorney General of Ohio and then as the head of enforcement at the CFPB.

We will count on him to fight against the predatory lending practices that contributed to the economic crisis from which we are still recovering.

I look forward to Mr. Cordray's testimony today to hear about his vision for the landmark CFPB and what he hopes to accomplish as its first Director.  Richard Cordray is a highly qualified nominee and an excellent pick to become the first Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
