Hochul, Gallivan Announce Support For Expansion Of WNY Auto Parts Company Through Recharge NY And Excelsior Jobs Programs

Oct 22, 2012 Issues: Education, Jobs and Economy, Local Issues

WILLIAMSVILLE N.Y. - Today, on a tour of Jiffy-tite’s Lancaster facility, Representative Kathy Hochul (NY-26) and Senator Patrick Gallivan announced their support for Jiffy-tite’s application to the ReCharge NY and the Excelsior Jobs Programs to expand their facilities. Prior to the tour, Hochul and Gallivan met with Mike Rayhill, Jiffy-tite President, and company leadership to discuss efforts to strengthen American manufacturing and expand education and training opportunities to close the skills gap.

“Jiffy-tite is a prime example of what American manufacturing can accomplish. Employing over 150 hard working people and still looking to grow, this company has created and kept good-paying jobs right here in Western New York,” said Rep. Hochul.  “As our economy continues to recover, it is critical we focus on preserving and expanding American manufacturing and investing in our local workforce. With the help of programs like ReCharge NY and the Excelsior Jobs Program, Jiffy-tite can expand, and in this case, create an additional 80 jobs here in Western New York.”

“To ensure Jiffy-tite and its 150 employees have the opportunity to stay and expand in Western New York – and to attract other manufacturing employers like Jiffy-tite – elected officials, educational institutions and the private sector must work together to identify and advance responsible policies that will allow manufacturers to compete and thrive,” said Senator Gallivan. “In the State Senate I was a proud supporter of both Recharge NY and the Excelsior Jobs program, two initiatives designed to attract and retain manufacturing jobs, and today I am again proud to join with Congresswoman Hochul in supporting Jiffy-tite’s effort to utilize these programs to solidify and expand its presence in our community.”

Jiffy-tite has manufactured 330 million parts to date for 23 active automakers, NASCAR, and the United States Military. Currently, Jiffy-tite ships over 150,000 parts per day out of NYS to every continent but Antarctica. The company employs over 150 workers, mostly in Lancaster and Batavia.

Jiffy-tite submitted a Consolidated Funding Application through Empire State Development for the ReCharge NY program in both their Lancaster and Batavia facility.  Additionally, Jiffy-tite applied for Excelsior Tax Credits for their Lancaster location, which is intended to facilitate a significant expansion of current product lines and soon to be introduced products to serve a growing market. The five year expansion will entail 80 new jobs and a $10 million investment in WNY.

Rep. Hochul has consistently supported programs to help Western New Yorkers obtain the skills they need to compete in the 21st Century economy as part of her school to work initiative, the Workforce-Ready Educate America Act, and her (REBUILD) Western New York plan.
