Social Security

More than 60 percent of America’s seniors depend on Social Security for a majority of their income. However, this program will be bankrupt unless we enact significant reform. I believe that Congress, the President, and the American people must carefully examine alternatives to put Social Security on a path to long-term viability while acting quickly to ensure the retirement security of today’s and tomorrow’s retirees. Fixing Social Security is doable if members of both parties are committed to fixing it soon in a fair way.  Unfortunately, the President and many of his supporters would prefer to deny that Social Security’s current trajectory is unsustainable.  I will not let them off the hook, and I will press to make sure that this program is reformed in a way fair for seniors and taxpayers.
