Energy Independence

Representative Martin Heinrich is working to increase investments in clean energy, energy efficiency, and emerging technologies, and limit carbon pollution. This will take us in a new direction on energy that will create jobs here at home and make America a world leader in clean energy.

For too long, America’s energy crisis has been ignored. Instead of reducing our dependence on foreign oil, the Bush Administration watched it grow, while lavishing unnecessary tax breaks and subsidies on oil companies. And American families paid the price for this failed policy, with $4.00 a gallon gasoline and volatile energy prices even as paychecks for most were flat. It is time to make the tough decisions needed to transform America to a clean energy economy to create new jobs and industries.

Making America energy independent will not only create jobs, but is critical to strengthening our national security, as we can longer afford the price volatility inherent to our dangerous dependence on foreign countries for so much of our energy.
