Sarbanes Helps Secure More Than $200,000 for Annapolis Fire Department
Federal funding will make safety and operations improvements for first responders
“Our first responders are ready to accept certain risks to keep our communities safe,” said Congressman Sarbanes. “We must provide them with adequate resources to ensure their safety is not unnecessarily compromised by faulty equipment or aging buildings.” The Annapolis Fire Department has been awarded $202,499 to purchase exhaust removal systems for each of their three fire stations. The stations are decades old, leaving them in great need of upgrades that will prevent firefighters from exposure to dangerous diesel exhaust. The city has committed a ten percent funding match to complete these critical improvements. The AFG program works to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, the AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards. ###
