Sen. Webb Statement on Justice Department’s Settlement with George’s Inc.

Senator Jim Webb made the following statement regarding today’s announcement that the U.S. Department of Justice reached a settlement with George’s Inc.:

“I commend the Justice Department for putting Virginia workers first and reaching an agreement with George’s Inc.” said Senator Webb.  “Today’s announcement protects competition in the Valley, which benefits consumers, while also preserving more than 500 jobs and the livelihoods of the 121 farmers with contracts at the Harrisonburg plant.” 

On May 19, Senator Webb joined Senator Mark Warner, Gov. Bob McDonnell and Rep. Bob Goodlatte (VA-06) in a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder regarding the U.S. Department of Justice’s antitrust lawsuit challenging George’s Inc.’s acquisition of Tyson Foods Inc.’s poultry processing facilities in Harrisonburg.
