Vermont Internships

Terms:
September - December (part-time positions available)
January - May (part-time positions available)
June - August (part-time positions available)

Internships at our district office in Burlington are comprised of:

  • Press
Assist the Press Secretary in tracking news stories in the local media and may help organize the logistics of organizing press conferences, media advisories, photography, videography, multi-media production, etc.
  • Outreach
Develop and update constituent databases, assist in the organizing and execution of various public meeting that the Senator holds around the state, and develop lists of potential meetings for the Senator to attend. Interns may also be able to attend meetings of various constituency groups along with the Outreach Coordinator.
  • Constituent Advocacy
Assist staff in responding to constituents' requests for information and assistance. At first, this will entail responding to requests for information, rather than requests for assistance. Interns may also be asked to handle requests for assistance (which usually are characterized by a "problem" that someone is having with an agency, rather than just a request for information or clarification of a regulation). Interns can expect to improve your interviewing, advocacy, negotiation, and research skills.

These are only rough guidelines, but indicate the average internship with Senator Sanders. Actual time spent in each area varies depending on how much Congress is in session, what issues are of concern to Vermonters, etc. More importantly, these guidelines change from intern to intern, depending on that intern's drive and motivation. While we cannot promise what an internship will entail before hand, we are committed to seeing that interns get as much out of each internship as they can.

Applications for Spring 2013 internships must be received by 5 P.M. on Monday, 12/10/12.
