Rep. Hank Johnson's Fourth of July E-Newsletter

Jul 3, 2012

Dear Friends,

Happy Fourth of July! All across our great country and the Fourth Congressional District, folks will be coming together, celebrating our independence and freedom, decked out in their red and white and blue, firing up the grill and having a good time with family.

ptsd.jpgMy wife Mereda and I will be celebrating with family as well, but I will also be at events and parades throughout the community to celebrate America's birthday.

As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, it gives me great pride to serve our great country, and to work on behalf of the men and women who so honorably and bravely serve us.

So on this day that is uniquely American, we’re reminded of our Declaration more than 230 years ago that made us a beacon to the world and continues to inspire people everywhere to demand their own freedom from tyranny, despotism and petty dictatorships.

On this Fourth of July, I especially want to salute the men and women who defend us today in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.

We're still a light for the world because of you! One of the ways I'm doing my best to support our active military and veterans is by raising awareness of PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

I was honored to speak at PTSD Awareness Day on June 28 in Washington in support of stronger policies to promote awareness and provide access to treatment for PTSD victims and their families. [Click video above to watch or click HERE]

Please keep our soldiers and their families in mind this holiday, and please have a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July holiday.
