SIUC RECEIVES U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION GRANT

Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that Southern Illinois University at Carbondale has been awarded a $297,600 FIE Earmark Grant Awards Program grant through the U.S. Department of Education.  The grant will be used for a summer program that will bring academically at-risk elementary students to SIUC for rigorous academic instruction and enrichment activities, including health and nutrition education.  The goal of the program is to prepare students to successfully complete a college prep curriculum at the high school level. 

"Providing the opportunity for students to reach their academic potential is essential not only to their success, but the continued economic success of the United States" said Costello. "I will continue to support programs that further expand educational opportunities in the region."
