Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) today met with "Angels in Adoption" Award recipient Nancy Blecha of Columbia during a visit to his Washington, D.C. office.
Nancy exemplifies the caring spirit and selflessness this award was meant to recognize. In addition to her grown son, she has adopted three young boys, each with medical and developmental challenges, and is a foster parent to three other children. Nancy manages the many demands of parenting special needs kids with help from a close-knit family. The Blechas serve as a tremendous example of the benefits and importance of adoption and the strength of a loving family.
Costello, who is a member of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption, nominated Nancy for this year's "Angels in Adoption" program. Each year the Coalition on Adoption honors individuals and families across the nation who have made a difference in the lives of children and families through adoption. The "Angels in Adoption" program was created to raise public awareness of the many different ways that committed individuals can help children and families through adoption.
"Adoption benefits everyone - parents, children and the entire community," said Costello. "It is important to recognize parents like Nancy Blecha that are giving their children the chance to experience a loving home life, and I am very happy to have the opportunity to visit with them today."
