Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the City of Carbondale has received a $65,403 Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. Coverdell funds are used to improve the quality and timeliness of forensic science and medical examiner services and to eliminate backlogs in the analysis of forensic evidence.
"Better forensic services mean more efficient police work and safer communities," said Costello, a former law enforcement official. "This is another way the federal government is working to improve the ability of local first responders to do their jobs."
