Herrin, IL - On Wednesday, October 12, 2005 U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) presented a check representing Transportation Bill funds to Herrin City officials at a ceremony held in the Herrin City Hall located at 300 North Park in Herrin, Illinois.
Costello presented Herrin Mayor Vic Ritter with a mock check in the amount of $384,000. The City of Herrin will use these funds to widen Poplar Street from Park Avenue to 13th Street in Herrin, Illinois. The project will improve access into the Maytag Laundry Manufacturing facility in Herrin.
Costello secured these funds for the road improvement in the multi-year Transportation Bill recently approved by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by the President.
