Carbondale, IL - On Wednesday, October 12, 2005 U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) cut the ribbon opening the newly reconstructed New Era Road in Carbondale, Illinois and presented a check representing Transportation Bill funds to Carbondale Mayor Brad Cole at a ceremony held at New Era Road north of its intersection of Rt. 13.
Costello and Mayor Cole cut the ribbon, officially opening New Era road which was improved using federal, state and local funds and he also presented Mayor Cole and members of the City Council with a mock check in the amount of $1,655,004. The City of Carbondale will use these funds to improve Reed Station road at its intersection with Rt. 13.
Costello secured the Reed Station improvement funds in the recently approved Transportation bill (TEA-LU) and the New Era road funds from the previous Transportation Bill (TEA-21).
