Granite City, IL - At a press conference held on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) made a major announcement concerning a road improvement project located at the Rivers Edge development in Granite City, Illinois.
At the Press Conference, Costello announced that he was able to secure $1 million in the House Highway Transportation Bill for major improvements that will be made to Bissell Street, which is located within the Rivers Edge. The improvement will help Rivers Edge in attracting additional industrial and manufacturing development by creating better truck access into the facility. He also participated in an announcement that Mattingly Lumber, which is headquartered in Missouri, is locating a lumber yard and millwork operation at the Rivers Edge. Mattingly will initially create 25 new jobs with the potential for 25 more in later phases.
The Rivers Edge development is the former site of the Charles Melvin Price Support Center that was owned by the U.S. Army. Congressman Costello was successful in passing legislation that transformed this closed military base to a commercial and industrial center. The press conference was held at the entrance to the Rivers Edge located just off Illinois Route 3 and Niedringhaus Ave.
