Carterville, IL - During their annual Legislative Breakfast held on Monday, March 28, 2005 at John A Logan Community College, U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) presented two grant checks, representing funds awarded by the U.S. Department of Education to College President Robert Mees.
Costello first presented President Mees with a grant check in the amount of $360,000 for a Strengthening Institutions Program or Title III grant. The college will use the funds to strengthen educational programs by adding new technology to develop instructional materials. These funds cover the first year of an anticipated five-year grant.
Costello also presented President Mees with a grant check in the amount of $260,742 representing funds awarded from the U.S. Department of Education's TRIO Support Services grant program. The TRIO grants will be used to provide services to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds obtain a higher education.
