U.S. CONGRESSMAN JERRY COSTELLO PRESENTS ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT CHECK TO EAST ALTON FIRE DEPARTMENT

East Alton, IL - On Tuesday, March 22, 2005 U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) presented an Assistance to Firefighters grant check to Fire Chief Larry Ringering of the East Alton Fire Department at the East Alton Fire Station located in East Alton, Illinois.  

Costello presented Chief Ringering and East Alton Mayor, Fred Bright with a mock grant check in the amount of $24,480. The East Alton Fire Department will use these funds to purchase new equipment for their self contained breathing apparatus system.

The Assistance to Firefighters Program is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  The program seeks to enhance the ability of local fire departments to respond to fire and fire-related hazards in their communities. Costello cosponsored the legislation that created the Assistance to Firefighters program.
