Alton, IL - On Tuesday, July 5, 2005, in the Alton City Hall Council Chambers, U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) participated in a briefing and an event where City of Alton Mayor Don Sandidge and US Army Corps of Engineers Colonel Lewis Setliff executed a project cost-sharing agreement for improvements to be made to the riverfront in Alton, Illinois.
Costello was briefed on the status of the project and then participated in the signing of the project agreement, which was approved by the US Army last week. The project agreement, which was made possible through the work of Congressman Costello, will allow the Corps to enter into a cost-share with the City for the construction of recreational facilities in Alton's Riverfront Park project. Alton will use the funds for development of parking areas, a river walk, a boat launch, visitor's center and picnic areas.
