St. Louis, MO - On Monday, July 25, 2005 U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) was recognized by officials at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital for his work on health care issues in the region. Costello was presented an award recognizing his service to children's health care issues by Cardinal Glennon Hospital President, Douglas Ries.
Costello visited with hospital administrative staff and members of the Board of Directors and toured the hospital's Patient Care Wing, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Bob Costas Cancer Center. He was also briefed on the services provided to Illinois children at the hospital such as neonatal intensive care, stem cells from cord blood and the Knights of Columbus Developmental Center, which serves children with developmental disabilities. Thirty-five percent of Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital inpatient admissions are from Illinois. In 2004, 1153 children from the Congressman's district were admitted as inpatients and 10 newborns spent more than 100 days there.
"I am happy to accept the award from Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital" said Costello. "The hospital is a leader at providing critical care and service to the children of our region"
