ILLINOIS COUNTIES RECEIVE HOMELAND SECURITY FUNDS FOR FLOOD MAP IMPROVEMENTS

Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) welcomed the announcement that six counties in the 12th Congressional District will receive U.S. Department of Homeland Security funds to make their flood maps digital and easier to use.  Total funding is over $3.1 million for 20 counties in the state, including Alexander, Jackson, Monroe, Randolph, Union and Williamson.

"Better maps will allow for better decision-making and better hazard mitigation," said Costello.  "This will make the process of accessing the maps, and the most up-to-date information, more user-friendly."

The funding is part of the Cooperating Technical Partners program which focuses on more efficient and effective floodplain management.  The Illinois Department of Natural Resources will administer the funds.
