Granite City, IL - On Tuesday, August 9, 2005 U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) presented a check representing Transportation Bill funds to Granite City Mayor Ed Hagnauer and Granite City Steel General Manager, Merle Stein in a short ceremony held at the Granite City Hall.
Costello presented Mayor Hagnauer and U.S. Steel official Stein with a mock check in the amount of $1,200,000.00. Granite City will use these funds to re-surface and improve 20th Street in Granite City, Illinois. 20th Street serves as a major transportation route for U.S. Steel's Granite City Division plant. The road improvement will aid traffic flow and improve the movement of goods and materials into and out of the City's central industrial area.
Costello secured these funds for the improvement to 20th Street in the multi-year Transportation Bill recently approved by the U.S. Congress. He also secured funding to improve Mockingbird and Stratford Lanes for $1,600,000 and an $800,000 improvement to Bissell Street located at the Tri-City Port District facility in Granite City.
