Women's Health and Reproductive Rights

In February 2011, when one of her male colleagues trivialized a woman's decision to have a second trimester abortion on the House floor, Speier stood to correct his mischaracterization by giving her own account of a painful time in her life when the pregnancy she and her husband prayed for was unsuccessful.

The day after she spoke, her office was flooded with phone calls of support from women and men.

She is strongly committed to protecting women’s health and reproductive rights.
