Senator Akaka to host CFPB Servicemember Affairs Director Holly Petraeus

CIA Director's wife will spend several days on Oahu helping military families increase financial literacy and avoid traps like predatory lenders

Honolulu, Hawaii - Beginning on Wednesday, September 5, U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka will host Mrs. Holly Petraeus, Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's Office of Servicemember Affairs, for a series of town halls and meetings to help Hawaii's military families increase their financial literacy and to coordinate with local agencies to improve consumer protection measures.

Akaka and Petraeus will hold a media availability on Wednesday, September 5th at 10:40 a.m. at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, along with U.S. Representative Colleen Hanabusa, Lieutenant Governor Brian Schatz, Attorney General David M. Louie, and Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Director Keali`i S. Lopez.  Please see below for media RSVP details. 

Media outlets covering this event will be able to share financial tips for and common pitfalls facing Hawaii?s servicemembers and their families, and highlight additional opportunities for members of Hawaii?s military community to attend town hall meetings with Sen. Akaka and Mrs. Petreaus over the rest of the week at Kaneohe, Pearl Harbor-Hickam, and Schofield. 

Holly Petraeus, the wife of CIA Director General David Petraeus, heads the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's Office of Servicemember Affairs and has been a longtime advocate for military families. 

Senator Akaka, a long-time advocate for consumer protections and financial literacy, authored numerous provisions in the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, including portions of the law that created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. 
 
In addition to the banking committee, Akaka serves on the Senate Committees on Armed Services and Veterans' Affairs.  He is a veteran of World War II.
