Hultgren Statement On One-Year Anniversary Of Failed "Recovery Summer"

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (IL-14) today issued the following statement regarding the one-year anniversary of the failed “recovery summer” touted by the Obama Administration.

“One year ago, President Obama promised the nation a ‘recovery summer;’ instead, the American people have suffered from something like an economic Ice Age,” said Congressman Randy Hultgren. “Over the past year, more than 280,000 Americans have lost their jobs; unemployment has surpassed 8 percent for 28 straight months; and real annual GDP growth under President Obama is the worst since the Great Depression.

“The president’s policies of massive borrowing, wasteful spending, and anti-growth tax hikes have clearly failed, and it is no wonder that the American people are losing confidence in the economy.

“It doesn’t have to be this way, and there are alternatives. I’m working hard with my colleagues in the House to thaw out our economy and put Americans back to work. We have voted time and again to cut spending and red tape; expand domestic energy production to bring down gas prices; and repeal the President’s health care law, replacing it with market-based health care reforms that will make care more affordable while protecting individual freedom.”
