Geneva, IL – U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (IL-14) released the following statement after the Supreme Court yesterday handed down their decision in the case of Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. EEOC. In their decision, the Court unanimously recognized a “ministerial exemption”, exempting churches and other religious institutions from employment discrimination laws regarding members of the clergy and others in ministerial functions.

“Yesterday’s decision from the Supreme Court is a decisive victory for religious liberty and persons of faith everywhere. At its heart, the Court’s decision in this matter reaffirms the fundamental importance of religious liberty in American life. Churches, synagogues and other places of worship are now protected from government interference in matters of employment; I applaud the decision as these should be matters of faith, not bureaucracy.”
