Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (IL-14) today released the following statement after the House Committee on Agriculture approved H.R. 3527, the Protecting Main Street End-Users From Excessive Regulation Act, by voice vote. Hultgren introduced H.R. 3527 in November with bipartisan support.

“I’m pleased that the Agriculture Committee approved this important, bipartisan legislation to ensure that Main Street end-users, such as agricultural cooperatives, rural electric cooperatives, and public power authorities, are protected from rules designed to regulate the largest Wall Street firms,” said Hultgren. “Subjecting Main Street end-users to these overly-broad rules would threaten consumers with higher prices, or increased price volatility, for essentials such as food and electricity. H.R. 3527 ensures that Main Street end-users are protected from these rules, so that they can continue to serve their members and communities, and protect consumers from volatile prices for food and electricity. I hope that the House takes up this bill in an expeditious manner, and passes it with the bipartisan support it deserves.”
