Tom Carper, U.S. Senator for Delaware

Sen. Carper will visit the John Dickinson Plantation, the boyhood home of John Dickinson, a signer of the U.S. Constitution and former Governor of Delaware, to see its recent renovations. In April, 20 Hampton Hotel employees helped the plantation's preservation effort by volunteering 120 hours of their time in honor of National Volunteer Week (April 10 – 16). The volunteers completed projects such as preserving the 18th-century living quarters and exhibits, refinishing the mansion's wooden porches and landscaping the gardens with native Delaware plants. In February 2011, Sen. Carper introduced the First State National Historical Park Act of 2011 to establish a National Park in Delaware. The John Dickinson Plantation is one of six authorized sites in the Delaware National Park.
