Strong Tower Ministries Bus Presentation

Rep. Mica met with over 70 children from the Strong Tower Ministries at the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve Center on July 15, 2006.  With Rep. Mica's assistance, this environmental educational facility was opened to the public in September 2005.

During the visit, the children toured many educational exhibits highlighting aquatic animals and our natural environment.  They participated in interactive learning exercises, toured the Center, and explored the beach on the nature reserve.  In addition, the children participated in a scavenger hunt, viewed touch tanks, and saw a presentation on sea turtles, sharks, and seashells.??Working with the Volusia County School Board and VOTRAN, Rep. Mica secured a refurbished bus to meet the transportation needs of the Strong Tower Ministries of Seville.

This community-based organization provides after-school care and programs for West Volusia teenagers and senior citizens.  The new bus provides transportation to Seville and Pierson citizens who previously have not had access to activities sponsored by the Strong Tower Ministries.

On June 27, 2005, Rep. Mica met with members of the Daytona Beach/Halifax Area Chamber of Commerce, Volusia community leaders and participants from Strong Tower Ministries for a question and answer session.  Afterward, a ceremony was held to present the keys of a reburbished bus to Doris Brantley, Executive Director of Strong Tower Ministries of Seville.
