S.R. 9B Extension

With completion of SR 9A to I-95 south of Jacksonville, commuters now benefit from a continuous beltway around metropolitan area that will be designated I-295.

The proposed new connector, the SR 9B Extension, will provide an alternative northeast route from the Race Track Road/I-95 junction, located east of Fruit Cove, to intersect the future I-295 just south of Baymeadows Road. Partial funding of SR 9B to I-95 has already been committed. With a $2.2 million infusion of funds from the 2009 stimulus bill, funding for final design and right of way acquisition is complete.

The SR 9B Project has been broken into 2 Phases. Phase 1 (From SR 9A to US Highway 1) is scheduled to begin Summer of 2010 with an anticipated completion date of Summer 2012. Phase 2 (From US Highway 1 to I-95) design and right-of-way acquisition are underway, but construction costs remain unfunded at this time.

Rep. Mica has requested an additional $28 million in the pending Surface Transportation Reauthorization for SR 9B construction. The Surface Transportation legislation is currently pending in Congress.
