Sanford-Amtrak AutoTrain Facility

In 2004, the Sanford Auto Train Station was nearly destroyed by a hurricane. With federal funding, Amtrak recently constructed a new $10.5 million station.  The new 600-seat facility accommodates more passengers, local commuters and bus service, and potentially will be intermodal with a link to the SunRail Central Florida Commuter Rail system.  The facility was completed in October, 2010.

Additionally, Congressman Mica secured federal support in a 2010 House appropriations measure to provide for the design and construction of improved access roads to the Sanford Amtrak Auto Train Station.  Phase I of the project, currently underway, will support roadway enhancements including widening of Persimmon Avenue to three lanes, improving signage and implementation of signalization.
