Lower St. Johns River Basin

With some foresight and a comparatively small investment now, environmentally sensitive areas can be preserved along the St. Johns River at a minimum of cost.  Our future leaders and taxpayers would not be faced with the prospect of having to choose between saving this resource by spending billions on restoration or losing it forever.

Over the years, Rep. Mica has been successful in persuading the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to help acquire land between the Ocala National Forest and the Wekiva State Preserve.  By working with the Florida St. Johns River Water Management District, a seamless environmental preserve has been created which stretches along the St. Johns River from north of Lake George down to Lake Monroe.

Rep. Mica recently requested additional federal assistance to help acquire land south of Tiger Bay State Forest near the intersection of Route 44 and I-4, and he is continuing his efforts to secure federal assistance for Florida's environmental preservation needs.
