Oversight Committee Investigates Benghazi Security Failure

The US House Government Reform and Oversight Committee on which I serve today conducted a hearing relating to the September 11th attack and murder of our American Ambassador and personnel in Benghazi, Libya.  Testimony revealed that the Obama State Department officials both rejected requests to bolster the Benghazi Counsel compound and also mislead the public regarding nature of the attack. Obama Administration officials lead by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Charlene Rice blamed the attack on demonstrators allegedly angered by a video.  In fact the attack was a terrorist event planned to coincide with the September 11th anniversary.

The hearing was held to review the Administration's account of the attack as it continued its cover-up of the facts dealing with the attack until two whistleblowers came forward to dispute the Obama administration account.  US Ambassador Christopher Stevens is the first Ambassador rank diplomat killed in office since 1979.  Today’s hearing shed new light on the growing scandal surrounding the failure of the State Department and their efforts to deflect facts relating to the deaths and gross security failure.
