4 Laning of U.S. 17 Through Putnam County

The current two-lane road is a County-long bottleneck and is an inadequate Emergency Evacuation Route. At Congressman Mica's urging, the State has begun preliminary planning and has moved this expansion project up on its future work plan.
Rep. Mica has requested $15 million in the pending 2010 Surface Transportation Reauthorization for US 17 widening. If approved, this funding will further expedite this important project. The Surface Transportation legislation is currently pending in Congress. This new funding would be in addition to the $16.3 million the Congressman secured in 2005 for final design activities and right-of-way acquisition.?
