Transportation & Infrastructure

In addition to serving on the Homeland Security Committee, I also serve on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.  The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has jurisdiction over many forms of transportation: aviation, maritime, waterborne, roads, bridges, mass transit, and railroads.  Missouri has the seventh most miles of highway in the U.S. and two of the three largest rail yards in the country.  The Committee also has authority over clean water and waste management, the transport of resources by pipeline, flood damage reduction, the economic development of depressed rural and urban areas, disaster preparedness and response, activities of the Army Corps of Engineers and the various missions of the Coast Guard.

I serve on the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, which has jurisdiction over highway, transit and highway safety programs and the policy, which governs how highway and transit projects are planned, approved and constructed.  On the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, I oversee the federal programs and policies related to regulation and safety of our railroads and the safety of pipelines transporting hazardous materials.  I also serve on the Subcommittee on Aviation, which oversees our aviation safety and infrastructure and the impacts of transportation security on safety and the aviation industry.
