Homeland Security

Today there are many challenges facing our country and none is greater than keeping our people safe. As a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, I am doing everything in my power to make sure we are protected and that those who serve on the front lines have the tools they need to get the job done.

In 2002, the House Homeland Security Committee was established to provide oversight for the United States Department of Homeland Security.  Sitting on the Homeland Security Committee, my jobs is to protect the American people from another terrorist attack.  The Committee was chartered to hold hearings and craft legislation for issues specific to Homeland Security.

I serve as Vice Chairman on the Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations and Management, where we work to conduct investigations and oversight of homeland security programs, oversight over management, financial, information technology and procurement functions within the Department of Homeland Security, the Department’s Privacy Office and the Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, workforce issues and the implementation of the Freedom of Information Act at the Department.  In addition, I serve on the Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence and the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection and Security Technologies.
