Corpus Christi Caller Times: U.S. Sen. John Cornyn on Wednesday challenged President Barack Obama to lead the nation away from the fiscal cliff that threatens to plunge the economy into another recession… The Senate's plan to maintain and extend the Bush-era tax cuts, a bill authored by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and passed along party lines in July, is not a viable option, said U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold, R-Corpus Christi. "Sen. Reid's plan does not address the root of our problem, which is spending, instead it removes the opportunity for us to institute real reforms and merely kicks the can down the road," Farenthold said in an email. Farenthold said his constituents in South Texas expect Washington to take a balanced approach, something he said the House has committed to by offering to raise revenue in exchange for spending cuts.
