Nomination process

Each year I have the distinct pleasure of nominating outstanding young men and women from the 27th District of Texas to the four United States' military service academies. To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, an applicant must meet the eligibility requirements established by law and be nominated from an authorized person including a member of the United States House of Representatives or the Senate.

Who is eligible?
Each applicant for a nomination must meet the following eligibility requirements as of July 1st of the year of admission to an academy:

  • AGE: Applicant must be between 17 and 23 years old.
  • CITIZENSHIP: Must be a U.S. citizen that is legally domiciled within the boundaries of the 27th District of Texas


Applying to my office for a nomination

Applicants are carefully evaluated based on numerous qualifications that include: character, scholarship, leadership, physical fitness, medical fitness and motivation. Interested student should contact my office in Corpus Christi in the spring of their junior year in high school to begin the application process.

If you are interested in applying for a nomination for the entering class of 2012 (graduating class of 2016), you may download a copy of the current application, here. You may also contact the Corpus Christi district office to have a copy mailed to you.

PLEASE NOTE: All application materials for the entering class of 2013 must be received by the Corpus office no later than November 30, 2012.

All students have four nomination sources. In addition to your United States Representative, it is advisable to request a nomination from both of your United States Senators and the Vice President of the United States. Those links can be found here:
